Gas Log Resource Center

Gas Log Sets for Northeast Ohio Fireplaces

Vented or vent-free? Real Fyre, Empire, or Napoleon? IPI or millivolt? This resource center covers everything homeowners need to understand gas log systems — written from OGF's field experience installing and servicing them across Greater Cleveland.

OGF's Gas Log Experience

Ohio Gas Fireplace has been installing and servicing gas log systems across Cuyahoga, Lorain, Lake, Summit, and Medina counties since 2019. Our NFI-certified technicians work with vented and vent-free systems in masonry fireplaces, factory-built fireplaces, and fireplace inserts.

We encounter a wide range of systems in the field — from older millivolt standing-pilot sets in 1970s masonry fireplaces to newer IPI electronic-ignition systems with Bluetooth remotes. That hands-on experience shapes everything in this resource center.

If you're researching a new gas log set, troubleshooting an existing one, or trying to understand what type of system belongs in your fireplace, the pages here are written to help — not to sell you something you don't need.

Common Questions

What is the difference between vented and vent-free gas logs?

Vented gas logs require an open damper and a working chimney flue. They produce a realistic, full flame but most of the heat escapes up the chimney. Vent-free (ventless) gas logs burn with the damper closed, releasing heat into the room, but require a correctly sized firebox and an Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) safety system.

Do gas logs require professional installation?

Yes. Gas log installation involves connecting to your home's gas supply, which requires a licensed technician in Ohio. Improper installation can create gas leaks or carbon monoxide hazards. OGF's certified technicians handle the full installation and perform a safety check before leaving.

What brands does OGF install and service?

OGF installs and services Real Fyre (Peterson Gas Logs), Empire Comfort Systems, and Napoleon gas log sets, among others. Our technicians are familiar with IPI electronic ignition systems, millivolt standing-pilot systems, and a range of remote-control options.

Can I convert my wood-burning fireplace to gas logs?

In many cases, yes. Vented gas logs can be installed in most masonry fireplaces with a working damper and flue. Vent-free logs require additional firebox evaluation. OGF assesses your specific fireplace before recommending a system. Call (216) 282-1995 to schedule an evaluation.
